I’m putting it off right now. Can’t you tell?
Right now. And now. AND NOW*.
*also, now.
I’m not unique in putting this particular thing off. In fact, I am sure there are a bunch of people on WordPress right now doing exactly the same thing. I see you, fellow putter-offers, we are a community right now.
And what is that thing?
Yes, you guessed it. I should be writing my novel. I should be actually doing that thing which allows me to grow and develop as a writer. I should be being creative, putting my truth on the page, crafting fine sentences into a twisting narrative, etc. etc…
But I’m writing a joke blog post instead.
Just to really hammer home the point, let’s list the things I have done this week instead of writing that novel:
- Baked a cake (lemon drizzle)
- cleaned the toilet (needed doing, another thing I had been putting off)
- stripped the bed
- folded all the clothes from ‘the pile’ (yes, that pile)
- wandered into town
- wandered back out of town
- sat in a coffee shop with the intention to write, but read a book instead
- messaged Julie asking when she is coming home (she has been away for a week)
- washing up
- my homework (this one was important, so I won’t feel bad about that)
- played games (… less important)
- made a soup (Butternut squash and sage!)
- stressed about how much soup I have (seriously, I made WAY too much)
- went to my French class
- swept the kitchen
- cleaned the sinks
- washed multiple loads of laundry
- reflected on how the patriarchy is affecting our lives (a lot and it’s bad)
- read other children’s novels (for inspiration, of course)
- re-watched Star Trek: The Next Generation (Jean-Luc Picard – need I say more?)
- watched a film called Spectral (was a bit meh, but I got to the end)
- went to therapy (also important)
- went out to buy some more soap
- walked to the river and back
- walked to the river and back AGAIN (this sounds more impressive when you don’t know how close I live to the river)
- wrote a blog post including a really long, pointless list (like that is a good way to spend my time?)
ALRIGHT. Fine. I’ll go back to writing if you insist.

See you next time.
