Because I have!
Our best laid plans were thrown into chaos this morning when our 11:30am ferry turned out to actually be an 11:00am ferry (and they sent us an email back in March to let us know). We arrived 45 minutes early, but also 15 minutes too late. The gate was closed. We aren’t going to Le Havre today.
In the Headspace app, there is a video on regret. In this video, Andy, the guy who created the app, stands at the edge of Death Valley in the USA, in a very artistically filmed sequence, and tells you to take 60 seconds. 60 seconds to feel the regret, and pain, and anger, and frustration, and embarrassment, then you can move forward into the present moment.
After all, if you take more than 60 seconds, you’ll be living in the past. You could get stuck reflecting on a moment, going round and round in your head with ‘what ifs’ and ‘if only I hads’… then you are stuck in the past, which is bad. Don’t be stuck in the past, live in the moment!
So Julie and I took our 60 seconds to feel emotions and beat ourselves up.
We took each second at a time… and spaced them out over about half an hour*.
*What? Cheating? I don’t know what you mean.
And now we are sitting in a cafe in Portsmouth International Ferry Port, with sugary coffee and cakes to make ourselves feel better and to celebrate – because it wasn’t that difficult, or expensive (thank goodness), to find another ferry a bit later.
Yes, the ferry doesn’t quite go to the same place. It goes to Caen, a city a few hours to the left of Le Havre, but I wanted an adventure and I DEFINITELY GOT ONE. Onwards! The quest awaits!
I am staying positive.
Staying reeeeeal positive.
See you next time.
