One of the joys* of being ill all week is that you get to lie on the couch and watch a lot of stuff on TV without that I need to be doing something productive feeling. Or at least it is slightly easier to ignore that feeling because if you try to move, your body quickly reminds you why you are on the couch in the first place.
* is ‘joys’ the right word? No. Simple pleasures? No. Ways to pass the time, perhaps?
I have watched many a strange thing this last week including the entire first season of the latest Goosebumps tv show, the horror film The Menu, the classic film Sunset Boulevard, and also the true crime mini-series Little Miss Innocent: Passion. Poison. Prison.
As I am short of idea for today’s post, allow me to do a quick review of all of them, in three sentences or less. Here we go:
Goosebumps, series 1: Fantastic. Creepy, and very funny at points. A lot of nods to the source material and ends really well at episode 8. It then has two more episodes which didn’t really need to be included, but aren’t awful.
The Menu: I loooooved this film. It had everything I wanted – creepy, weird, got you thinking, some tasty-looking food, and some shocking moments. Would watch it again right now and just might.
Sunset Boulevard: I really enjoyed this film – a stark commentary on how Hollywood treats women which still feels true today, and was also a bit silly and overacted. Kept me guessing and I like that.
Little Miss Innocent: Passion. Poison. Prison: Stupid title. The title sequence also clearly used AI art which is a big NO from me. Interesting enough to keep me hooked until the end though – I don’t think she is innocent.
There you go! I’m going to return to the couch now as, unfortunately, I am still ill. Boo.
See you tomorrow.
