I have to write?? (Blogtober #29)

November is coming.

This was going to be a blog post about how I am considering doing NaNoWriMo this year. Then I googled NaNoWriMo, discovered the many controversies around that organisation, and I came to the decision to stop considering it. Considered no more. Not doing it. Nuh uh.

But… I do want to write.

Blame Blogtober, I know I do, but I’m really digging this daily writing practice. Admittedly, rushing to write a blog and then post it probably isn’t the best use of my daily writing (as you can probably tell by the occasional nonsensical blogs that pop up on this website) but focusing more on my novel, and maybe doing the odd reflective post here doesn’t seem like an awful idea.

In fact, it feels like the opposite. It’s an unawful idea.

(Okay, I realise that’s not a word.)

So here’s the plan, Batman (and others who are reading this blog): I’m going to try and keep a daily writing practice over November, tracking the amount of words I write each day – in a way similar to NaNoWriMo, but not – and see where I end up at the end of the month. I’m telling you this like it is a fantastically new and interesting idea, but I’m sure it has been done one thousand times before.

I shall be the one thousand and one-th to do it.

(Wow, really filling this blog post with made-up words today, how fanastical of me.)

Of course, that means I will actually have to do some writing for my novel – which is definitely the spooky thing of today. What a horrifying thought!

I’m kidding, of course. My spooky thing of today is actually Port Saga: a Vampire the Masquerade podcast. I started listening to this today and have already absorbed two episodes. Fantastic acting. Wonderful sound mixing. And if you’re a sucker for hard-boiled detective-esqe stories with vampires – you’re in for a treat. Even more so if you know the Vampire the Masquerade rpg lore. It’s a spooky gift for the ears.

See you tomorrow!

Defo do the writing challenge, whatever you choose to call it. It’s such a good discipline and if you’ve done a whole month, why not make use of that momentum? Bravo I say!

I too want to write but I’ve never been happy writing simply for the sake of filling space. I have done it but not been happy with it, hence the occasional large gap between some of my posts – never make a good fence like that, eh?
On another tack, nothing wrong with making up the occasional word here and there if it helps the flow…

I agree – writing for simply filling space can feel a bit useless (although I could probably have planned this blogtober a little better so I had more post ideas at the start).
I think in the future, I’ll scribble the nonsense on a piece of a paper to get the flow going and then keep the good stuff (or at least the alright stuff) for the blog!

I’m Rhi

I’m just a writer trying to live slower and be more observant of my feelings.

I am also a bit silly.

This blog is a mishmash of all that.
