Whenever I catch COVID, it is usually joined by an equally wonderful dose of sinusitis. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, I’ll just get sinusitis, and not COVID as well. Either way, I’m getting sinusitis. My sinuses just love to complain and be in pain.
SINUSITIS:
An inflammation of the mucous membrane that lines the sinuses resulting in symptoms such as thick nasal mucus, a plugged nose, facial pain, gross yellow snot, a general feeling of unhappiness and a reluctance to do anything apart from complain.
(Gathered from Wikipedia with a few splashes of my own experience)
For the last week, I have been in bed, sniffing, groaning, being in pain, full of any flu medicine I could get my pale, sweaty little hands on. A double-feature of COVID and sinusitis has forced me to stop. It has forced me to sit and be in the moment. And let me tell you, I hated the moment. It was the worst moment ever. 0/10 for that moment.
One side effect of sinusitis is that I grab the bridge of my nose a lot and look like I am thinking really deeply about something. You might even go as far as I saying I look philosophical, or at least as philosophical as you can look in a dressing gown surrounded by snotty tissues (so very philosophical).
You might think that I started this blog post with a lesson in mind. Perhaps I planned to spin it in such as way that in reflecting on my suffering I have come to the conclusion that my life is actually one of great privilege and I should be thankful for what I have. Or maybe you think I got a sneaky branding deal with Kleenex and this is all just one elaborate advert to get you to buy tissues.
Well if you thought either of those things, you are wrong. I’m writing this purely to complain. It’s a self-gratifying complain-fest, where the whole reason behind it is just to point out that I had COVID and sinusitis this week, and it sucked and I am upset about it and that you should feel sorry for me.
Do you feel sorry for me? I hope so. I wrote this whole thing so you would.
Here is my lesson for today: It’s okay to complain sometimes. Do it. It will make you feel better. Although it won’t cure either COVID or sinusitis. Believe me, I’ve tried.
