Rhi Axtell – Writer

A few months ago, I decided that I would participate in NaNoWriMo this year.

I’ve had a go before, but given up after the first week due to a number of reasons, the main one being that my novel plan unravelled in front of my eyes as I wrote it and I lost all hope.

Fingers crossed that won’t happen again this year!

It was awful. I still have a draft somewhere that I will never look at again.

This time I have more of a plan. Not just ‘Write a scary story about a haunted house or whatever’ but an almost complete chapter breakdown. I know where I am going, just not entirely sure how I will get there.

Even with all this planning, Nanowrimo still managed to sneak up on me. I was relaxing last night, watching Star Trek Discovery, hiding from ‘Trick-or-Treaters’, minding my own business when I realised that it actually started tomorrow!

Thus began a panicked, frantic writing session, where I tried to start off the novel that I have been blocked on for the last few years.

And you know what was great? It actually worked! I am 1200 words in and I haven’t even begun the first day yet. Wooo!

It kinda feels like I started running before the gun was fired… but I’m not going to worry too much about it.
