Rhi Axtell – Writer

Somewhere along the way in my time as a freelancer, I decided that if a task didn’t help me in my career, it probably wasn’t worth doing. I don’t know when this happened, but I spent the majority of my time on projects which would help me “further” myself as a writer, marketer, coordinator, or whatever hat I was wearing that day. But today I had a thought.

Why can’t I just do something for the sake of doing something?

For fun.

Not for profit or some misguided sense that I must always focus on my career.

So, I started drawing alpacas. Yes, you read that right.

Not because I have a secret alpaca project, not because I was hired to draw alpacas and not at all because I am good at drawing. I’m not. In fact, calling them alpacas is a stretch. Exhibit A:

But it was relaxing, it was fun and it was very, very silly.

Did you know Alpacas hum when they are happy? Don’t you feel better for knowing that?

Taking time out to do something stupid is something I would encourage everyone to do. After all, life isn’t a race to the finish line. Let’s enjoy the ride!
