Yesterday, I made a significant step in my language learning: I read a book in French!
And by that, I mean I read the book (okay, graphic novel) in its entirety and understood what was going on.
The book I read was California Dreamin’ by Pénélope Bagieu. It’s a sometimes powerful, sometimes hilarious, sometimes immensely sad telling of the life of ‘Mama Cass’ and the formation of the band The Mamas and the Papas.
I am all about celebrating every little step on my journey towards learning French – and this is a big step! Before, I would stare at French books as these big unconquerable things (which, as a writer, was very disheartening). But now this Everest suddenly seems a little bit smaller, a little more attainable.
Maintenant, je vais lire tous les livres !
